Textiles and Fiber Arts of Borneo: Supporting Malaysian Artisans

Join Edric Ong and Jungle Arts & Flora in their presentation of the Textiles and Fiber Arts of Borneo while supporting Malaysian artisans and their legendary works All Day event includes: Traditional Malaysian wall hangings, baskets, scarves, sarongs, jewelry and videos for sale as well as appetizers and drinks for all ages. A basket weaving workshop from 10-3 Saturday, hosted by Senia using 1/4’" bamboo strips - half of which will be the dyed with indigo by Andro. Cost per participant includes materials $40 A silk scarf stamp dying workshop from 10- 3 Saturday, hosted by Edric using local leaves and fauna for prints. Cost per participant includes materials $50 We will share a short film- "Fiber Arts in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo" and a mini presentation, "Fiber Arts of Borneo – Tradition and Innovation", by Edric Ong - Senior Vice-President, World Crafts Council, Asia Pacific; President of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Handicrafts Promotion and Development Association; Benz/Stylo 2016 Malaysian Designer of the Year Several Borneo Iban Traditional Dances performed by Senia Jugi with music recorded by Matthew Jau. A Fashion Show demonstrating the various ways to wrap traditional and fashion textiles with “volunteer” models from the audience A Table of Textiles created by Edric Ong and Baskets by Senia Jugi We will have video of fiber arts happening in the villages of Borneo. Senia Jugi will dance to recorded Iban music and Edric will share draping skills with some “volunteer” models using various scarves and sarong textiles.
