For their inaugural Eco Hero Award, the Santa Barbara Permaculture Network honors John D. Liu, international journalist and award-winning documentary filmmaker, and ambassador for the emerging ecosystem restoration camp worldwide movement. John D. Liu is an International journalist, documentary filmmaker, and soil scientist, who first gained acclaim for his film about the remarkable restoration of the Loess Plateau in China, later making many other films documenting large scale ecosystem restoration projects taking place around the globe. Currently, he serves as the official ambassador for the emerging Ecosystem Restoration Camps movement, with the first camp in Spain, with others forming, including one proposed for California.
