Picnic in the Park - Event Volunteer

The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County is hosting Picnic in the Park again this summer! Picnic in the Park offers free, nutritious meals to children who receive free or reduced-priced lunches during the school year over the summer months and will run between June 8 and August 7 (June 15 and August 14 in Carpinteria). To find a site near you, please visit: https://foodbanksbc.org/programs/lunch/ Volunteers Needed! The Foodbank is now recruiting volunteers aged 14 and up. Volunteers will help manage and support meal distributions by handing out lunches, conducting essential meal tracking, and ensuring the safety of our clients. They must commit to multiple shifts throughout the summer and undergo a brief criminal background check. Shifts are approximately two hours long during lunchtime on weekdays. These shifts will entail standing, bending, doing light lifting, and engaging with members of our community. Volunteers are also expected to enforce social distancing and safety protocols. We are also in need of Site Leads who will coordinate communication between volunteers, staff, and attendees, enforce all PIP rules, and assist with set-up, sign-in, and clean-up. Site leads must make an ongoing commitment beyond five shifts during the summer and attend a training orientation. To Sign Up: • Create an account on VolunteerHub [https://foodbanksbc.volunteerhub.com/]. • Then send an email to your respective Foodbank team member with the subject “PIP Volunteer.” Please indicate if you are interested in serving as a Site Lead in the body of your email, and make sure that you include your name as it appears on your VolunteerHub account. o If you are located in North County and interested in this opportunity, please contact Kelli Padilla at kpadilla@foodbanksbc.org. o If you are located in South County, please contact Lena Childers at lchilders@foodbanksbc.org. • Once you have completed your background check, you will be able to sign up for an Orientation and for your preferred shifts on VolunteerHub. o The orientation is only required for PIP Site Leads, but all volunteers are encouraged to attend.
