Cut and Paste - Collage in Santa Barbara
The Arts Fund is excited to announce the opening of Cut and Paste – Collage in Santa Barbara curated by Dug Uyesaka. The show features work by Tony Askew, William Dole, Mary Heebner, Angela Holland, Sue Van Horsen, William Davies King, Kate Doordan Klavan, Susan Owens and Susan Tibbles. A public reception will be held on the evening of Friday, November 16th from 5pm to 8pm during the Funk Zone Art Walk. The exhibition will be held at The Arts Fund Community Gallery, located at 205-C Santa Barbara Street. “Collage, derived from the French word “coller”, to glue; is the joining of paper and other found objects onto paper, canvas or wood. Curated by artist and educator Dug Uyesaka, Cut and Paste – Collage in Santa Barbara is a broad survey of the art form and how it came alive with the influence of local artist William Dole (1917 – 1983). An internationally recognized collagist, Dole, was an educator, mentor and inspiration for many artists from the 1940s to the present. William Dole married bits of paper, handmade pigments and text in lyrical, gracefully crafted images based on the mysteries of the observed and contemplated world around him. This exhibition shows a wide range of local artists who utilize collage as one of their main modes of creative expression. They run the gamut of the traditional joining of paper to paper to the digital and alternative techniques illustrating the extent and breadth of the medium”. -Dug Uyesaka, Curator The exhibition will be on view until Friday, January 11, 2019 at The Arts Fund Community Gallery, located at 205-C Santa Barbara Street. Regular gallery hours are Thursday to Sunday from 12pm to 5pm and Monday through Wednesday by appointment. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
