Climate Activist Training: How to Participate In Government Meetings

The Community Environmental Council (CEC) will offer a free climate activist training in Spanish and English from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, at CEC’s new Environmental Hub at 1219 State Street and via Zoom. This hybrid, bilingual event, Climate Activist Training: How to Participate in Government Meetings, is the first of its kind at CEC, and we hope to provide guidance to individuals so they can have greater input on climate policy decisions that impact their communities.

At the training, CEC Policy Director Michael Chiacos will present information, resources, and instructions on how to get involved in local climate and environmental policy, including how to attend city council, board of supervisors, and other government meetings, how to read an agenda, and how to make an effective public comment. CEC’s Climate Policy team will also review the biggest climate policy wins of 2023 and how everyday individuals can help advocate for strong climate policy in their communities. After the training, attendees can sign up to become a CEC Climate Activist and be notified when there are opportunities to advocate for strong climate policy in their local community.

El Consejo Comunitario del Medioambiente (CEC) ofrecerá una capacitación gratuita para activistas ambientales en español e inglés de 5:30p.m. a 7:00 p.m. el jueves 7 de diciembre en el nuevo Centro Ambiental del CEC ubicado en 1219 State Street y a través de Zoom. Este evento bilingüe e híbrido Capacitación para activistas ambientales: cómo participar en juntas de gobierno, es el primero de su tipo para el CEC, y esperamos brindar orientación a las personas para que puedan hacer un mayor aporte en las decisiones de leyes climáticas que afectan a sus comunidades.

En la capacitación, el Director de Políticas del CEC, Michael Chiacos, presentará información, recursos e instrucciones sobre cómo participar en el proceso legislativo local en cuanto a leyes climáticas y ambientales, incluyendo cómo asistir al Concejo Municipal, la Junta de Supervisores y otras reuniones gubernamentales, también cómo leer una agenda y cómo hacer un comentario público eficaz. El equipo de Política Climática del CEC también repasará los más grandes logros en leyes climáticas del 2023 y cómo toda persona puede ayudar a abogar por leyes climáticas firmes en sus comunidades. Después de la capacitación, los participantes podrán inscribirse para convertirse en activistas ambientales del CEC y ser notificados cuando haya oportunidades de promover una ley climática importante en su comunidad local.
