In this encouraging and inspiring book, Michael Kearney, a physician whose day job is alleviating the pain and suffering of others, draws on engaged Buddhism, the indigenous wisdom of Native American and Celtic spirituality, and the powerful teachings he gained by observing nature to offer a way of being with pain that is infused with mindfulness, openness, and compassion. This poetic manifesto will be of interest to everyone who longs to live in our wounded world with an open heart. Michael Kearney, MD, a physician with over 35 years experience in palliative care and hospice. He is interested in models of healing that go beyond the Bio-Medical to include the whole person and the world. He is inspired by the teachings of Engaged Buddhism and Earth-based spirituality. Michael Kearney’s forthcoming book “The Nest in the Stream: Lessons from Nature on Being with Pain”, published by Parallax Press, February 2018. Michael and his wife Radhule Weininger, Ph.D., are spearheading the “Solidarity and Compassion Project” a monthly gathering of guest speakers from the community joining together to discuss ways of cultivating community healing during difficult times. They are the Founding Teachers of Mindful Heart Programs, dedicated to cultivating sustainable caring for ourselves, for others and for our world through mindfulness, compassion and nature connection.
